A new home on a 225 acre ranch was completed on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean in San Gregorio, California. Nestled in a grove of Monterey Cyprus, the house incorporates vernacular materials and mimics the sloping landscape with a series of angular roof planes. Large windows frame views down the hillside, across the ranch lands, and to the ocean. One of a few projects successful approved by the California Coastal Commission within the San Mateo coastal corridor, the site incorporates numerous green strategies including a solar array, gravity well, structural piling, and septic systems. The house is able to function off the grid. The project was completely modeled on computer to assist in the required complex coordination. Images below show consistency of pre-construction renderings with final construction.
